Steve Gunn will release a new instrumental record this summer. The guitarist announces Music for Writers comes out August 15 through Three Lobed Records. He shared the first song called Slow Singers on the Hill as a preview. The album runs nearly 47 minutes long and features 10 tracks total. Gunn recorded the music across three different locations.
He worked on songs in Brooklyn and Berlin as well as Latvia. Ernie Indridat mixed the album and Carl Saff handled the mastering duties. Music for Writers marks Gunn's first solo effort since Other You came out in 2021. He has stayed busy with other projects during that time period. The musician worked with David Moore from Bing & Ruth on two albums.
Gunn also teamed up with John Truscinski for a record called Flam. He joined forces with several other artists for a group called Beings. That band released an album titled There Is a Garden. The new instrumental album shows Gunn returning to his solo work after exploring different musical partnerships.
