Students, Job Seekers Clash with Police Over PSC Reforms, Protest Continues

Cops pushed angry students away from the busy Shahbagh crossroads during a heated protest Friday. The young demonstrators had blocked traffic for hours demanding major changes to government job tests. Police officers charged at the crowd and forced them to move toward Dhaka University campus. Students fought back briefly but nobody got hurt during the scuffle. The protesters regrouped at the famous Raju statue and vowed to keep fighting.

Salehin Sion from BUET said police attacked them from behind during their peaceful march. The engineering student helps organize the group called Chhatra Shamabesh that staged the demonstration. Students accuse officials of letting criminals steal test questions for three major government job exams. The protesters want authorities to throw out results from the 44th BCS exam and start over. They claim everyone knows about the cheating scandal that happened during those tests.

The student group blasts the current government for being weak against question thieves. Protesters say the same gang that leaked exam papers under Sheikh Hasina still operates freely. The Awami League government fell last August but the new leaders have done nothing about the problem. Students demand punishment for the criminals who steal test questions and sell them to rich candidates. The demonstration will continue until officials fix the broken testing system and catch the cheaters.
