A deadly attack on a market near Sudan's capital filled a hospital mortuary with bodies Saturday, Doctors Without Borders reports.
The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces struck the city of Omdurman, killing and wounding more than 100 people, Sudanese officials said. The RSF denied these claims.
Most victims were women and children, according to the Sudanese Doctors' Union.
The violence stems from a 22-month civil war between the RSF and Sudan's army. The conflict has caused thousands of deaths in what the UN calls one of Earth's worst humanitarian crises.
The army recently increased attacks in Omdurman, which sits across the Nile from Khartoum. It aims to push out RSF forces.
Witnesses told AFP the shells came from western Omdurman, an RSF-held area.
"Utter carnage" struck the Al Nao hospital after the blast, said MSF leader Chris Lockyear. The facility struggled with a flood of injured patients.
The doctors' union asked nearby medical staff to help, citing severe staff shortages. One shell landed close to the hospital.
"The shells hit the middle of the vegetable market. That's why we have many victims," a survivor told AFP.
Both sides face accusations of targeting civilians and homes. Health workers report attacks on medical centers.
Recent fighting has closed several health facilities, leaving thousands without medical care.
