Sugiono, Balakrishnan invade Kuala Lumpur for ASEAN talks

Foreign ministers from across the globe jetted into Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday as the big ASEAN summit gets ready to kick off. Indonesia's top diplomat Sugiono landed at 11.30am, while Algeria's Ahmed Attaf touched down even earlier at 10.30am at the fancy Bunga Raya Complex. Norway sent their deputy foreign minister Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik, who arrived at 3.30pm. Singapore's Dr Vivian Balakrishnan made it a late arrival, stepping off his plane at 9.10pm. The Malaysian capital buzzes with anticipation as these heavy hitters prepare for serious diplomatic talks.

Malaysia takes center stage as host of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting under their big theme of Inclusivity and Sustainability. The country plans to juggle a whopping 24 high-level meetings during the event. These include crucial one-on-one chats with major players like Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Four special three-way meetings will also happen between Malaysia, the ASEAN Secretariat, and partners Brazil, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey. Malaysia has done the hosting honors four times before, back in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
