Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the Sultan of Selangor, expressed gratitude for the safe return of 23 Malaysian activists who participated in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission. His Royal Highness praised the activists' dedication and the voluntary efforts of GSF to support Palestinians suffering under the Zionist regime.
A statement posted on the Selangor Royal Office's Facebook page noted that Sultan Sharafuddin had been following the GSF mission closely and was concerned when the activists were detained by Zionist forces in international waters. He thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for securing the activists' release with the help of the Turkish government.
The Sultan expressed hope that GSF's efforts would continue to raise global awareness of the oppression in Gaza. He also suggested that the activists document their experiences, especially their time in detention, in a book for Malaysians.
On October 2, the 23 activists were detained after their ship was intercepted by Zionist forces in the Mediterranean. They were released and returned to Malaysia on Emirates flight EK342, landing at KLIA Terminal 1 at 10:07 pm.
