Swabi elders form a committee to purge all transgender people

Pakistan's Human Rights Commission issued a sharp rebuke against community leaders in Swabi district after they announced plans to remove all transgender residents from the region. An eleven-member panel of local elders formed this controversial committee with the stated goal of forcing out the entire transgender population. The commission declared such actions violate Pakistan's constitution and the Transgender Persons Protection of Rights Act from 2018. Officials emphasized that citizens cannot face displacement based on gender identity alone.

Committee members claimed transgender individuals promote harmful music events that corrupt local youth. The group threatened to involve district police if voluntary departure does not occur. Recent arrests of over 200 people during a music program raid preceded this announcement. Transgender community members responded through video statements rejecting the expulsion demands. They emphasized their respect for local customs while asserting constitutional protections and willingness to accept government employment instead of entertainment work.
