Swapo Rift Saga Exposed as Empty Drama

Swapo president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says reports about fighting between her and secretary general Sophia Shaningwa are false. Party workers claim Nandi-Ndaitwah has stayed away from party events after traveling across southern Africa. She missed most Swapo activities since April when the party celebrated its 65th birthday. Sources say Shaningwa used this time to build support among party members. People inside the party think Shaningwa wants to become vice president in 2027.

Nandi-Ndaitwah called a news conference Wednesday to stop the rumors. One party insider compared the public display to past betrayals within Swapo leadership. The president said people spread lies about her relationship with Shaningwa. She explained that Shaningwa missed the April anniversary because of a family funeral. Both women denied having problems and said they work together regularly.

Political expert Erika Thomas thinks the news conference came late and damage already happened. She warned that speculation like this hurts political parties. Thomas said opponents use these tactics to create confusion and division. The rumors could help Swapo enemies if party members believe them.
