Switch 2 GameChat Feels Like a Virtual LAN Party

Nintendo added GameChat to the Switch 2 against their habits. The company never paid much attention to player talk features before. Players can speak with friends, show their screens, or share videos with an extra camera. The idea came during lockdown times when staff placed game screens in front of cameras instead of faces. The team realized this made everyone feel connected despite being apart.

GameChat offers helpful reading options for those who need them. The system creates words on screen from what people say. It also reads written messages aloud for people who prefer hearing. These features work by pressing the new C button on the controllers. Free talking ends next March unless players pay for a Switch Online membership. The console arrives next month without early reviews from game writers. Nintendo plans a first-day update that prevents sending test units ahead of time.
