Switch 2 Price Hike Worries U.S. Gamers

According to a supplier, the Nintendo Switch 2 might cost more than expected because of new tariffs. A leaked memo from a company that makes parts for both Apple and Nintendo reveals that game consoles from China face a massive 145% tax when entering the United States. This puts the Switch 2, mainly manufactured in China, at risk of jumping well above its announced $449.99 price tag. PlayStation 5 consoles will likely become more expensive as well since they come mostly from Chinese factories.

Some Switch 2 units are being produced in Vietnam, with shipping data showing that Hosiden Corp sent more consoles to America last February than in the previous six months combined. However, most systems still come from Chinese factories, making a price increase almost certain despite these efforts. The new Nintendo console launches globally on June 5, except in China, where its release remains on hold indefinitely. Gamers can find more details about the system through recently published hands-on impressions.
