Türkiye deepens ties with The Gambia in 2026 push

Turkey is doubling down on its partnership with Gambia through major defense and development deals. The Turkish ambassador highlighted donated armored personnel carriers valued in the millions to support Gambian peacekeeping missions. Dozens of Gambian security personnel are receiving long-term training in Turkey, with more programs planned. High-level political coordination was praised, including Gambia's role in leading the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Turkey provided additional financial support for Gambia's International Court of Justice case. Its aid agency executed over a dozen projects last year covering health, vocational training, and climate action. Upcoming initiatives include support for women farmers, fisheries, and a friendship park in Banjul. Bilateral trade topped sixty-six million dollars in a recent eleven month period.

Turkish businesses have expanded investments in ferry services, port development, and energy. Flight connectivity has improved, with twice as many weekly flights now operating between Istanbul and Banjul. Educational ties deepened through new Turkish language courses and a cultural center hosting various events. Dozens of Gambian students received scholarships to study in Turkey last year, joining hundreds already there. The ambassador reaffirmed a commitment to deeper cooperation based on mutual respect and shared progress.
