Takesure Chiragwi punches player on live TV

Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Takesure Chiragwi withdrew from his role as Zimbabwe Warriors assistant coach after he struck player McDonald Makuwe on Saturday. The incident occurred on Oct. 4, 2025, at Rufaro Stadium when referee Lawrence Zimondi issued Chiragwi a red card before halftime in a 1-1 match against Dynamos. Makuwe attempted to prevent the coach from confronting match officials when Chiragwi attacked him.

The Premier Soccer League condemned the behavior, and officials confirmed they would pursue disciplinary measures after receiving match reports from the club. Chiragwi apologized on Sunday for his actions toward the player, the league, and the Zimbabwe Football Association. He accepted responsibility for damaging the sport's reputation, and he agreed to cooperate with investigators.

The coach faces potential sanctions similar to Yadah FC board member Spencer Muvadi, who received a one-year ban after assaulting a goalkeeper. Chiragwi's attack was recorded from multiple camera angles, which may strengthen the disciplinary case against him. His participation in the December AFCON finals remains uncertain as Zimbabwe prepares for World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Lesotho.
