Tamim Iqbal vows to quit playing if elected to the BCB, Dhaka

Tamim Iqbal addressed reporters at a hotel press conference on Sunday after participating in demonstrations against the government-selected council panel for the Bangladesh Cricket Board election. The former national captain stated he would cease all cricket activities if voters elect him to the board position he seeks. The 36-year-old batsman emphasized that formal retirement announcements remain unnecessary since his administrative role would prevent playing commitments. He clarified that charity matches outside Bangladesh might still attract his participation. The left-handed opener holds the record as the country's leading run-scorer in one-day international matches.

Iqbal previously resigned from ODI leadership before announcing retirement in 2023, though he reversed that decision after the Prime Minister's intervention. While he officially ended his international career, domestic cricket continued to feature his participation until this latest declaration. His transition from player to potential administrator represents a significant shift for Bangladesh cricket. The veteran accumulated 70 Test appearances, 243 ODI matches, and 78 Twenty20 international games during his distinguished career.
