Tanker Blast Traps Commuters on Lagos Ibadan Road

Drivers waited more than eight hours on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Wednesday after multiple crashes blocked traffic. Two separate accidents happened near Ogere Mile 12 market and affected both directions of travel. A fuel truck exploded outside NASFAT Islamic Centre and created thick smoke that scared nearby people. Emergency teams rushed to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow. The massive jam started around 9 am and continued late into the day.

Florence Okpe speaks for the Federal Road Safety Corps and told drivers not to worry about the delays. Her agency brought heavy equipment to move crashed vehicles and clear debris from the road. Fire departments worked with police and traffic officials to handle the emergency response. The fuel tanker caught fire after falling during regular driving and created additional dangers for rescue workers. Safety experts advised people to use different routes or delay their trips until crews finished cleanup work.

Traffic backed up between several major landmarks and affected thousands of daily commuters. Cars could not move between NASFAT U-turn and Arepo going toward Lagos direction. The inward Lagos section suffered similar problems between NASFAT U-turn and RCCG car park areas. Mile 12 market Ogere became another bottleneck point that trapped vehicles for hours. Road safety officials promised to restore normal traffic as quickly as possible.
