Tanzania’s public servants urged to prioritize health for productivity

Ministry of Community Development officials emphasized wellness maintenance as essential for civil service effectiveness during Monday health screenings in Dodoma. Deputy Permanent Secretary Amon Mpanju urged employees to adopt balanced diets, hydration practices and exercise routines, while consultant psychiatrist Isack Rugemalila warned that 297 recognized mental disorders exist globally and workplace pressures combined with unhealthy habits increase susceptibility to psychological conditions.

Benjamin Mkapa Hospital HIV/AIDS specialist Esidras Karol reported approximately one million Tanzanians carry the virus and recommended precautions, including protected sexual activity and safe transfusion protocols. The wellness initiative reinforced government guidelines requiring employers to support staff health for optimal performance and service delivery outcomes.
