Tanzania praised Uganda's development achievements at the 63rd independence anniversary celebration held at the Ugandan High Commission in Dar es Salaam. Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Cosato Chumi represented Tanzania at the event marking 60 years since Uganda gained independence from British rule in 1962.
Chumi credited President Yoweri Museveni's leadership for Uganda's economic growth, averaging over 6 percent annually, and advances in infrastructure, education, energy, health, and agriculture. Uganda has become food secure through these gains, he said.
The nations are collaborating on the 14-megawatt Mulongo-Kikagati hydropower facility and the East African Crude Oil Pipeline connecting Hoima to Tanga, which is 70 percent complete. Uganda relies heavily on Dar es Salaam Port for cargo movement.
Tanzania will continue upgrading port facilities to serve regional partners efficiently. Tanzanians and Ugandans maintain strong social connections through intermarriage and cooperation across colonial borders.
