Tanzania Mourns - President Samia Honors Late Sheikh Iddi

Tanzania's Religious Leader Sheikh Muhammad Iddi Dies.

Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu Hassan mourned the death of Sheikh Muhammad Iddi on Thursday. The prominent religious leader died at Mloganzila Hospital in Dar es Salaam.

"We have lost a man who deeply loved his country," Hassan posted on X. She praised his roles as a teacher, mentor, and advocate for justice.

Sheikh Iddi, known as Abuu Iddi, served as an advisor to Tanzania's Mufti and Chief Sheikh, Dr. Abubakar Zubeir Ali Mbwana. He led the Mwinyiamani Mosque and coordinated the Council of Sheikhs and Islamic Scholars.

His work focused on building peace and unity through religious teachings. As chancellor to the mufti, he offered guidance on both religious and social matters.

The funeral will take place Friday in Mkata Ward, Handeni District, Tanga Region, according to the Mufti's office.

"He dedicated his life to promoting peace, unity, and stability through his sermons," Hassan said, noting his impact on Tanzania's interfaith harmony.
