Tanzania preps 60-day push to get locals owning projects

Tanzania's pushing locals to invest in their own backyard instead of foreign interests. Officials launched a nationwide drive to get citizens funding projects, with Professor Kitila Mkumbo, a planning and investment minister, leading the call. He urged Tanzanians with land to start income-generating ventures that support economic growth.

Gilead Teri, head of the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority, stated that a major goal involves rolling out hundreds of projects. The campaign will provide public education on putting money into priority sectors outlined in national development plans.

Victor Byemelwa, a communications manager for Kilombero Sugar Company, thanked the government and investment authorities for working on investor challenges. The initiative aims to build sustainable development through increased domestic investment across the mainland and islands.
