Tanzania, WHO team up for health sector overhaul

The Tanzanian government and the World Health Organization will develop a joint two-year work plan to strengthen national health services. This announcement was made by the Ministry of Health's Permanent Secretary, Dr. Seif Shekalaghe, during a meeting with WHO experts in Dodoma.

Dr. Shekalaghe stated that the plan must align directly with Tanzania's national priorities, which include a five-year strategic plan and an annual budget. He emphasized that the country's historical success in the health sector should guide the new initiative.

The WHO Resident Representative, Dr. Alex Gasasira, concurred that the planning process must be country-led, respecting Tanzania's specific health sector priorities rather than following an externally imposed framework.
