Tarique Rahman urges vigilance against extremism ahead of Bangladesh elections

Bangladesh Nationalist Party Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman addressed a virtual memorial ceremony honoring private university educators, students, and fallen protesters from recent mass demonstrations. The event took place at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium during evening hours. Rahman warned citizens against allowing extremist or fascist elements to regain power through misguided electoral choices. He emphasized that upcoming national elections require careful voter consideration to prevent authoritarian forces from returning. The political leader questioned whether fair elections remain possible without guaranteed political rights.

Rahman criticized the interim government's handling of recent violent episodes that have raised doubts about administrative capabilities. He demanded greater transparency and bolder leadership from current authorities to maintain democratic support. The BNP leader compared 2024 uprising martyrs to those who died during the 1971 independence struggle. Rahman recalled how July protests evolved beyond quota reform demands into broader anti-government resistance. He stressed that building the nation these martyrs envisioned requires establishing genuine representative democracy through free citizen participation.
