Tarique registers to vote, EC rolls out the red tape

The election commission building got locked down for a big name's paperwork. Authorities ramped up security around the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon because BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman was scheduled to register to vote and get his National Identity Card. This follows his recent return to the country after years abroad. The commission kept its offices open specifically to handle this process during the election period. Senior members from the BNP standing committee were expected to go with him. This registration is seen as a necessary step for him to formally participate in the next national election.
