TaRMS Tax App Lets SMEs Ditch Paperwork

Zimbabwe's new tax computer system has made paying taxes much easier for businesses across the country. The Tax and Revenue Management System helps small companies register online without waiting in long lines. Business owners can file their tax forms from home and check their status anytime.

Government officials say other African nations want to copy Zimbabwe's digital tax system. Countries like Uganda and Rwanda have sent teams to study how the program works. The system connects different government offices and shares information automatically.

Small business operator Brian Zvarava registered his bakery online within days using the new system. He says the old paper forms were scary and took forever to complete. The digital process gives him confidence and opens doors for future growth.

Tax expert Dr Samukeliso Ncube believes the system brings informal businesses into the official economy. Companies that never paid taxes before are joining the system because it seems fair and clear. This helps the government collect more money without raising tax rates.

The three-day conference in Victoria Falls brought together business leaders and government workers. They discussed how the tax system could work with other digital programs. Zimbabwe still ranks low for business friendliness but the new tax system should help improve that score.
