Actress Teju Ashwini expressed gratitude for her role in the Tamil action thriller Blackmail, which took three years to complete. The film starred G V Prakash and drew inspiration from real events while being shot across 50 days in Coimbatore and Chennai. Director Mu Maran helmed the project after gaining recognition for his critically praised thriller Iravukku Aayiram Kangal.
The movie reached theaters on September 12 after delays from its original August 1 release date. Sam C S composed the music while Gokul Benoy handled cinematography for the two-hour production. JDS Film Factory presented the film under producer A Deivakani with support from Jayakodi Amalraj.
