Temans Furious As Mahama Names Outsider MCE

Chiefs in Tema are upset about President Mahama picking Ms. Ebi Bright as the new head of their local government. They wanted someone from their community for the job. The council believes other towns have locals appointed to similar positions. They feel left out despite giving up their farmlands for industrial growth.

The traditional leaders say they feel like outsiders on their home soil. They expected the government would choose a native person to lead the Tema Metropolitan area. Other coastal towns have local people running their affairs, which makes Tema chiefs wonder why they face different treatment. The council clarified that they welcome non-natives as residents but think the current situation seems unfair.

Tema Shipi Nii Amarh Soumponu II told reporters they remain peaceful despite their frustration. The council will not fight against the government or start trouble. They want officials to hear their concerns about equal treatment. Ms. Bright would become the first woman to lead Tema Metro after running three times for parliament with the National Democratic Congress party.
