Tems Steals Spotlight at Billboard Bash in London

Grammy winner Tems received a special honor at Billboard's first Global Power Players Event. The Nigerian singer joined British legend Elton John and music executive Ghazi Shami as the main award recipients. Billboard held the ceremony Wednesday at Shoreditch House in east London. Tems collected the Diamond Award from incoming Billboard Africa editor Nkosiyati Khumalo. She praised Billboard for supporting African music and culture during her acceptance speech.

The singer said African music reaches new heights never seen before. She thanked Billboard for helping move the music industry forward on the continent. Elton John won the Creators Champion Award at the same event. EMPIRE founder Ghazi Shami earned the Clive Davis Visionary Award. Nigerian musician Olamide presented Shami with his trophy.

Billboard launched its first UK Power Players chart during the London ceremony. Tems holds the record as the most awarded African artist in Billboard history. She became the first Nigerian woman honored at Billboard's Women in Music Event last year. The Oscar-nominated star continues breaking barriers for African artists on global stages. Her achievements help open doors for future musicians from the continent.
