Ten arrested after violent clashes at NRM campaign in Isingiro South

Police grabbed ten people after campaign fights turned ugly last Friday. Political supporters went crazy during election rallies for two rival candidates. The chaos happened when fans of MP Alex Byarugaba Bakunda battled followers of challenger Asensio Mujuni Maari. Angry crowds torched three vehicles during the mayhem. Officers had to step in fast to stop the violence from spreading.

The arrested troublemakers are Collins Arimpa, Hillary Aryanyijuka, Vincent Niwagaba, Adrian Tumuhamye, and Abiyasi Mwebesa. Police also caught Grace Juma, David Npakaniye, Aron Npakaniye, Obed Aharimpisya, and Alex Kiconco. Regional police chief Saamson Kasasira said his team used smart detective work to track them down. He promised to catch every person who caused damage. The cops opened official case files and started hunting for more suspects.

Several troublemakers ran away from their homes after the fighting ended. Police teams are chasing leads to find the missing suspects. Kasasira warned the runners to turn themselves in before officers drag them to jail. He said investigators are working hard to identify everyone who joined the riots. The police chief expects more arrests soon.

This district has seen deadly political violence before during past elections. Four people died during similar clashes back in 2021. The area keeps having these dangerous fights between opposing political groups. Campaign season always brings fear to local residents. Police worry about more violence as election time gets closer.
