Malaysian autogate systems experienced widespread failure, preventing foreign travelers from accessing automated immigration clearance at key border crossings. Technical malfunctions affected approximately 200 automated gates nationwide, forcing thousands of international visitors into manual processing queues. Kuala Lumpur International Airport terminals and Johor Bahru checkpoints reported the most severe congestion as immigration officers activated all available manual processing lanes.

Officials confirmed that Malaysian passport holders retained autogate access while foreign nationals faced system restrictions beginning yesterday afternoon. Border control authorities at Sultan Iskandar Building acknowledged the technical difficulties through an official statement released during midday operations. Immigration departments deployed additional personnel and activated contra-flow lanes at bus terminals to expedite passenger processing during peak weekend travel periods.

Investigators examine potential cybersecurity breaches or deliberate system interference as possible causes for the nationwide disruption. The automated entry system has expanded to accommodate visitors from 63 countries since June 2024, with the implementation of QR code technology beginning this January.
