Terry Rozier arrested in federal gambling probe

Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was arrested early Thursday in Orlando as part of a federal investigation into illegal sports betting. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York is handling the case, with FBI agents leading the operation. Rozier, 30, was taken into custody without incident and will appear in court later this week.

Federal prosecutors confirmed he is being held pending a formal indictment, though specific charges have not been disclosed. His name had surfaced earlier this year in connection with unusual betting activity during a 2023 game while he played for Charlotte. The probe has since expanded, with Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups also detained in a related matter.

Investigators say they have gathered extensive evidence of organized gambling, but have not stated whether any athletes bet on their own games. If convicted, Rozier could face federal penalties and a multi-year NBA suspension. He joined Miami in early 2024 and averaged 16.4 points per game last season before an injury.
