Tesla Bets Tank as Model Y Delivery Hopes Fade

Tesla struggles to sell its updated Model Y despite fresh designs. The car maker offers free financing deals to attract more buyers. People bet Tesla will deliver only 355,000 electric cars between April and June. This number falls well below the 443,956 cars Tesla shipped during the same months last year. Musk blamed slow sales earlier this year on factory changes needed for the new Model Y.

The company plans to introduce less expensive versions of current models soon. According to market expert Gary Black, these cheaper cars might hurt Tesla's profits. Tesla hopes self-driving technology will save its business. The company will start testing driverless cars in Austin this June. Tesla also plans to run between 10 and 20 robot taxis in the Texas city during the summer.
