Thailand and Cambodia border fighting kills 32 as ceasefire pleas mount

Cambodia demands an immediate ceasefire with Thailand after border conflicts killed more than 30 people and displaced nearly 200,000 residents. Ambassador Chhea Keo requested an unconditional truce at the United Nations while seeking peaceful resolution. Thailand's Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa requires Cambodia to demonstrate genuine commitment before ceasefire negotiations can begin. Fighting entered its third day Saturday as Thai naval forces repelled Cambodian attacks along coastal areas. Thailand declared martial law across eight border districts.

Casualties reached 32 people with Thailand reporting 19 deaths and Cambodia confirming 13 fatalities. Thai officials evacuated 140,000 people while Cambodia relocated 35,000 residents from conflict zones. Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai warned the situation could escalate into full war. Heavy weapons fire spread across 12 border locations as both nations accused each other of targeting civilian populations. The century-old territorial dispute centers on a temple boundary established during French colonial rule.
