This is a real mess. Cambodia is accusing Thailand of bombing its territory with fighter jets, hitting areas in Siem Reap and Preah Vihear provinces. This happened right after diplomats from both countries, along with other ASEAN members, met in Malaysia, said they would hold new talks to stop the fighting. Thailand’s story is different, claiming they only did air strikes because Cambodia fired rockets first.
The whole conflict over their shared border has already killed dozens of people on both sides and pushed almost a million from their homes. The planned meeting in Thailand was supposed to work out a ceasefire, but a Thai official basically said talk is cheap and they need to see real action. It seems like every attempt at peace, including a declaration pushed by the US previously, has totally fallen apart almost immediately. The whole region is telling them to knock it off, but they’re still trading artillery fire and blaming each other for everything.
