The Itembe River Bridge in Simiyu nears completion at 95 percent

Tanzania National Roads Agency reported that the Itembe River Bridge in Meatu District has reached 95 percent completion for 8.4 billion shillings, with final work focused on pedestrian pathways and site preparation. Development Projects Head Rafael Chasama stated during an inspection on Sunday that contractors have received over 5 billion shillings, with an additional 1.5 billion under processing, and anticipated the structure would open by January 2026 after a 40-day curing period for the upper deck.

Rocktronic Ltd representative Emmanuel Kisanga confirmed the span meets national standards and can support loads exceeding 30 tons with an expected century-long lifespan. Resident Issa Kingu urged swift completion before December rains arrive, noting that seasonal flooding has previously caused deaths and property losses along the route connecting Arusha, Manyara, Singida, and Simiyu regions.
