Thieves raid Karujubu police, steal NIRA gear in daring heist

Thieves targeted a police facility in Masindi Municipality and escaped with National Identification and Registration Authority equipment valued for ongoing citizen registration operations. The predawn break-in at Karujubu police post yielded three computers, batteries, extension cords, and official documents, prompting authorities to detain two officers on dereliction charges.

Albertine Region police spokesperson Julius Hakiza requested community assistance in recovering the stolen property, while division chairman Solomon Asiimwe warned the theft could hamper identification card renewal services. Municipal official Julius Isingoma noted the perpetrators unsuccessfully attempted to force entry into an accounting office before fleeing.

Local leaders highlighted escalating nocturnal criminal activity throughout the Karujubu division, urging district security officials to expand overnight patrol coverage across vulnerable neighborhoods.
