Thousands of Roman Catholic worshippers assembled at Bulawayo's Hartsfield Ground for their annual choral festival. This event, which honors Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of church music, featured thirty choirs from across Zimbabwe and one from Johannesburg.
According to Ignatius Tawanda Mapanzure, a leader with the Zimbabwe Catholic Association of Sacred Music, the gathering fosters spiritual unity among participants. He noted that the festival rotates host cities each year, with Mutare scheduled for the next celebration.
Judges evaluated the choirs on criteria such as vocal harmony and overall presentation. The occasion also recognizes exceptional individual performers, encouraging youth involvement. The competition has grown significantly in scale and attendance over time.
