Authorities in Limpopo have detained three Zimbabwean nationals suspected of conducting multiple burglaries and thefts targeting cables and solar batteries throughout the province. The men, ranging in age from 29 to 35, were apprehended during a coordinated operation involving the Provincial Flying Squad, Tracker Connect and Nare Anti-Poaching Security that began Sunday evening and concluded early Monday. Officers intercepted a gray Toyota Etios displaying false registration plates and an altered Vehicle Identification Number after receiving intelligence linking the vehicle to criminal activity in Mogwadi, Polokwane and Groblersdal between March and October 2025.
The suspects face charges including possession of stolen property and violations of immigration law. Provincial Police Commissioner Thembi Hadebe praised the collaborative effort, noting its significance in combating organized crime across the region. Solar battery theft has increased as residents adopt alternative power sources to counter electricity shortages, with investigations continuing to determine whether the arrested individuals are connected to additional cases.
