Three killed in Kamuli as police arrest 90 suspects after NRM primaries

Violence marred Uganda's National Resistance Movement primary elections as three people died and authorities detained more than 90 suspects. Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma reported that most voting proceeded peacefully across the nation despite isolated deadly incidents. Gunmen killed Sowedi Igumbye in Kamuli district while he traveled with passenger John Bosco in vehicle UAR 749F. Attackers used bows and arrows against a woman returning from a campaign rally in Zombo district. Security forces arrested Benoni Tumwine after discovering he possessed a hand grenade in Isingiro South.

Authorities intercepted a taxi carrying 14 suspected bouncers hired to disrupt voting in Dokolo South constituency. Police detained 68 Law Development Centre students who traveled from Kampala to interfere with electoral processes in Iganga district. Candidates had transported the students and housed them together before their arrest following a tip. The primary elections selected party representatives for Uganda's 2026 general elections. Security forces maintained order while investigating electoral violence across multiple districts.
