Three million Zimbabwe farmers get early Pfumvudza inputs

Zimbabwe launches agricultural input distribution as authorities target 3.2 million tonnes of cereal production for the upcoming summer season. The ambitious goal encompasses 2.52 million tonnes of maize and 687,000 tonnes of traditional grains, exceeding national requirements by 33 percent. Regional climate forecasts from the Southern African Regional Climate Outlook Forum predict normal to above-normal rainfall between October 2025 and March 2026. Officials have implemented four distinct support programs to assist different categories of farmers across the country.

The Pfumvudza/Intwasa initiative will serve three million rural households, while NEAPS provides working capital through banking institutions for larger producers. Food Crop Contractors Association partnerships and ARDA joint venture schemes complete the comprehensive framework. Statutory Instrument 87 mandates processors to source 40 percent of grain requirements locally by April 2026, rising to complete domestic sourcing by 2028. Agricultural unions praise early preparations but emphasize timely input delivery for optimal yields.
