Three University of Zimbabwe security officers appeared in court without entering pleas after allegedly attacking a motorcycle courier they suspected of stealing. Chipo Munyikwa, 35, Tonderai Mudzinganyama, 55, and Jorum Mushayi, 61, faced charges related to an incident on September 11. Prosecutors stated the victim, Shepherd Mutamba, 27, visited the university farm to collect payments for a client. After completing one successful cash pickup, he returned the next day for another transaction.
Court documents indicated Mutamba was surrounded by guards when meeting a woman preparing payment. Munyikwa reportedly struck him before colleagues restrained and handcuffed him. The security team then allegedly beat Mutamba repeatedly during transport to the main campus. Mutamba had previously delivered money via mobile transfer following the first collection. The accused guards remain in custody pending further hearings as authorities investigate the alleged assault and false imprisonment claims. University officials have not yet commented on the personnel involved.
