Thunderstorm alert - heavy rain, flash floods expected

Weather authorities cautioned residents across multiple Malaysian regions to prepare for severe afternoon storms on Monday, with warnings covering territories from the capital area through coastal provinces. The alert issued at 5:30 p.m. remains active until 9 p.m. for portions of Peninsular Malaysia plus eastern states Sabah and Sarawak.

Officials warned that precipitation rates may surpass 20 millimeters hourly and continue beyond 60 minutes in certain zones, raising concerns about rapid flooding in low-lying areas. The forecast affects Kuala Lumpur alongside Gombak and Hulu Langat districts, where powerful gusts and electrical activity will accompany downpours. Drivers should anticipate hazardous conditions with poor visibility and wet pavement during evening commutes.

Northern territories Perlis and Kedah face similar threats, as do southern Johor and select areas within Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu. The meteorological agency advised citizens to postpone outdoor plans during inclement weather and monitor updates through official digital channels. Authorities emphasized these short-duration advisories typically span six hours or less, with revisions published as atmospheric patterns change.
