Kundai Tibugare says he never had a fling with Esther Vimbainashe Jerera, yet journalist Musorowegomo Mukosi, the husband she split from, wants US$200,000 over it. That's roughly R3.3 million, and Tibugare, a partner at Grant Thornton Zimbabwe, isn't taking it quietly.
Chimuka Mafunga Commercial Attorneys, the firm repping him, sent a letter attacking the legal grounds for the whole claim. They also accuse Mukosi of going after their client's career and good name.
The lawyers shot down the stories about trips to South Africa and Madagascar. Same goes for the claim that Tibugare got Jerera a white Toyota Fortuner.
And they're poking holes in how Mukosi supposedly got his hands on phone logs, flight details, CCTV from airports, and location pings. Per the legal team, bringing up where Tibugare works was a cheap move meant to make him look bad on the job.
The ask splits evenly. Mukosi wants US$100,000 (R1.65 million) for supposed harm to his privacy, reputation, and dignity, and another US$100,000 (R1.65 million) for losing companionship and the other perks of being married.
Jerera filed a separate affidavit with her side. She and Mukosi got married years ago and share one kid, then broke up about a year ago, though the civil marriage was never formally ended.
She says Mukosi assaulted her over and over and abused her physically, emotionally, and financially. She also claims he reached out to guys he thought she was seeing and got hold of her phone logs. None of that has been independently proven, and the claims are contested.
Jerera also says Tibugare isn't bankrolling her. She's a chartered accountant who runs a consulting business, and that income pays her bills while she studies law at the University of Zimbabwe.
