TIKA Boosts Gambia Baby Unit with 75K in Life-Saving Gear

Turkey sent special baby beds and other medical tools to help sick babies in The Gambia. These gifts cost about five million dalasis. The doctors at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital received these gifts on Monday.

The Turkish Ambassador, Mr. Türker Oba, thanked everyone at the hospital and the people who helped make this happen. He said they wanted to help more moms and babies stay healthy in The Gambia, so they made a big plan with three parts.

Last year, in February, some smart doctors came from Turkey. They taught thirty Gambian doctors and nurses how to take better care of moms and babies. Later in July, the Gambian medical team went to Turkey. They learned even more at a big hospital called Ankara University Hospital.

This time, the Turkish team brought five special baby beds called incubators. They showed the Gambian doctors how these beds work. Mr. Oba said Turkey fixed similar problems in their own country. They want to help The Gambia make things better for moms and babies.

The Turkish team has helped The Gambia many times since 2018. They made more than eighty different projects happen. Professor Augusta Eneh Sule Bayae leads the Turkish team in The Gambia. She thanked everyone who helped bring these gifts to the hospital.

Dr. Mustapha Bittaye and Dr. Babanding Sabally from the hospital spoke at the special gift-giving event. They were happy about the new medical tools, which will help many babies and their moms stay healthy.
