TikTok Star Jailed Over Naira Spraying Frenzy

A Kano court sent TikTok star Murja Kunya to prison for six months after she misused Nigerian money. Judge Simone Amobeda handed down the punishment at Federal High Court on Wednesday. The EFCC charged Kunya for throwing cash around her hotel room at Tahir Guest Palace. She violated Central Bank rules that protect the Naira from damage and abuse. Social media videos showed her scattering money notes for entertainment purposes.

Police arrested Kunya during January 2025 for breaking currency protection laws. Officials released her on bail before her scheduled court date arrived. The TikToker ran away and refused to appear for legal proceedings. EFCC agents spent weeks tracking her down through careful investigation work. Officers caught her again on March 16 after intensive search efforts.

Kunya faced court charges on May 20 for her money-related crimes. She admitted guilt to the single amended charge against her case. The popular influencer learned that social media fame cannot protect people from legal consequences. Federal authorities take currency abuse seriously regardless of someone's online popularity. Her prison sentence serves as a warning to other content creators.
