Tinubu Awards Grand Commander Order of Niger to Afreximbank President Oramah

President Bola Tinubu honored Benedict Oramah with Nigeria's second-highest award on Friday. Oramah leads the African Export-Import Bank and will step down from his role soon. The ceremony took place during the bank's annual meetings in Abuja. Tinubu gave Oramah the grand commander of the Order of the Niger award. The president praised the bank as a key part of Africa's independence.

The three-day meetings ended Friday after starting Wednesday. Officials gathered under the theme Building the Future on Decades of Resilience. Tinubu described Oramah as someone who built African strength. The president said Oramah's work helped protect the continent from economic problems. He noted how the bank leader supported healthcare independence and solar power projects.

Afreximbank has operated for 32 years across the continent. Oramah ran the institution for ten years and changed how it works. The bank's value grew from 5 billion dollars to more than 37 billion dollars under his leadership. Officials used 250 billion dollars to support trade and development projects. The bank spent 50 billion dollars on African projects during the past ten years.

Tinubu called for African nations to work together at the ceremony's end. He said the bank represents Africa's desire to control its future. The president urged leaders to unite for the continent's success. He reminded attendees that Africa's growth cannot wait for others. Tinubu said history remembers leaders who create their destiny.
