Tinubu tapped General Christopher Musa as the next Defense Minister after the previous guy, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, stepped down because of health problems. The president sent his nomination letter over to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Musa is a former Chief of Defence Staff who held that role until October. He even snagged the Colin Powell Award for Soldiering back in 2012.
Musa has been around the block in the military, working his way up through various commanding positions and operations. He led Operation Hadin Kai as Theatre Commander and ran the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps before getting promoted to Chief of Defence Staff by Tinubu a couple of years back.
The guy is 58, was born in Sokoto, and went through the Nigerian Defence Academy before getting commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1991. Badaru had been the Defense Minister since August 2023 but had to resign because of illness, and the president accepted his resignation.
