Tinubu taunts the UN in New York, says change or die

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu demanded comprehensive United Nations reforms during the 80th General Assembly session Wednesday in New York. Vice President Kassim Shettima delivered the address on behalf of the Nigerian leader. Tinubu warned that the organization risks becoming irrelevant without significant changes. The president outlined four major reform priorities for global consideration.

Nigeria seeks permanent membership on the Security Council as part of broader institutional changes. Tinubu emphasized his nation's growth from a 20-million-person colony to a sovereign state with over 236 million citizens. The country expects to become the world's third most populous nation with a youthful population. International bodies must reflect current global realities rather than historical arrangements.

The Nigerian president expressed frustration over slow progress on nuclear disarmament and Security Council restructuring. He proposed sweeping changes to global financial systems addressing developing nations' debt burdens. Tinubu characterized ongoing Middle Eastern conflicts as shameful examples of collective human failure.
