Nigeria will construct a massive fiber optic network spanning 90,000 kilometers across the country. World Bank Managing Director Anshula Kant discussed this initiative during her meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Communications Minister Dr. Bosun Tijani stressed how digital infrastructure drives national development. The Federal Executive Council has approved this comprehensive connectivity project. The network will create rings throughout all geopolitical zones and individual states.
The World Bank supports the funding structure for this digital transformation. Private investors will provide 51 percent of total project costs through a special purpose vehicle. Government officials expect construction to begin before year end. Public release of detailed design plans will occur within two months. Minister Tijani noted that enhanced connectivity directly impacts economic growth, with research showing 10 percent connectivity improvements generate 1.35 percent GDP increases.
