Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing acknowledged his mistake in organizing the recent gala dinner during the Global Travel Meet, which sparked controversy.
During Minister’s Question Time at Dewan Rakyat, Tiong expressed regret over the dinner’s decision to serve alcoholic beverages, which caused discomfort among the public. He admitted that he should have clarified earlier that the event was a private function, not an official government program.
Tiong assured that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) takes all public feedback seriously and appreciates Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's constructive criticism. He also emphasized that future official events will strictly adhere to government guidelines.
In response to a question from Datuk Seri Doris Brodi, Tiong highlighted the success of the Global Travel Meet, which attracted nearly 600 international tourism industry players and generated RM420 million in transactions.
