Tiwa Savage declares Afrobeats unstoppable, defies critics

Nigerian performer Tiwa Savage has rejected recent suggestions that Afrobeats faces declining popularity, arguing the genre continues expanding its worldwide influence. During remarks at the Unstoppable Africans gathering, she responded to industry figures Paul Okoye and DJ Big N, who characterized the musical style as weakening.

The vocalist traced her personal journey from childhood embarrassment about her heritage while living in London to the current celebration of African culture. She attributed this shift to the genre's remarkable growth despite initial skepticism from audiences and limited institutional backing. Savage recalled predictions that the sound would disappear after brief popularity, yet African artists keep selling out major venues and dominating international music rankings.

She emphasized the movement's lasting power against those attempting to diminish its significance. The award-winning artist described Afrobeats as representing continental unity and determination, insisting African musical expression will maintain its trajectory regardless of opposition.
