TNM rolls out 5G in Lilongwe as Chiyamwaka hails tech leap for Malawi 2063

Telekom Networks Malawi introduced its 5G service during a ceremony at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe. Baldwin Chiyamwaka from the Ministry of Information and Digitalisation stated the network advances Malawi 2063 development objectives. The technology will transform agriculture, healthcare access, education delivery, and urban planning across the nation. Chiyamwaka emphasized that digital connectivity drives economic transformation rather than serving as optional luxury. The government plans 5G expansion to Blantyre, Mzuzu, Zomba, and Liwonde under the first decade implementation strategy.

TNM Chief Commercial Officer Amon Jere announced that local engineers constructed the network with technical assistance from Huawei. The service enhances video streaming, virtual conferences, online learning, and mobile payments through faster data transmission. Businesses and individuals will experience improved connectivity through the upgraded SmartApp and new eSIM technology. The network enables real-time medical diagnostics, precision agriculture, automated mining operations, and intelligent transportation systems. Jere described the launch as creating innovation platforms that unlock economic opportunities beyond basic internet improvements.
