Tourists flood the Haor region as Tanguar boats sell out

Bangladesh's northeastern wetlands have become popular tourist destinations for visitors seeking unique seasonal experiences. Tanguar Haor floods across Dharmapasha and Tahirpur areas during monsoons while Meghalaya's green hills create scenic backdrops. Modern houseboats equipped with air conditioning depart from Sunamganj's Surma River and Tahirpur upazila for multi-day tours.

Officials designated Tanguar Haor as an Ecologically Critical Area in 1999 and recognized it internationally as a Ramsar biodiversity site by 2000. Nikli Haor in Kishoreganj attracts thousands of monsoon visitors along its five-kilometer embankment built around 2000. Local boatmen and businesses profit significantly from seasonal tourism despite some travelers questioning high boat rental costs and security arrangements.

Firefighters maintain round-the-clock services with specialized vessels and speedboats for tourist safety. Roads connect three Kishoreganj districts directly for easy access.
