Tourists press on to Victoria Falls after train crash

Tourists who lived through the train crash between the Rovos Rail luxury train and a goods train on Good Friday want to finish their trip to Victoria Falls. Seven crew members and one American tourist went to Mater Dei Hospital with injuries. A South African worker needed a long operation for spinal damage. The passenger train carried 47 tourists from countries like the USA, Canada, Denmark, Switzerland United Kingdom.

Tourism Minister Barbara Rwodzi and State Minister Judith Ncube visited hurt people after President Mnangagwa asked them to check everyone's condition. The injured American tourist Cheril Fagn thanked helpers who responded quickly. She promised to return to Zimbabwe despite her first visit ending badly. Both ministers also met uninjured tourists at their hotel, who seemed surprised by this official visit.

Many tourists took pictures with the ministers and expressed amazement at how kindly Zimbabweans treated them after the accident. Karen Shields from Washington, D.C., called the rescue staff incredible and praised their calm professionalism. Danish visitor Dr Peter Andersen helped injured passengers before ambulances arrived. He appreciated police officers who made everyone feel safe.
